Spending 10 times what any other country spends on military might just so your president can fulfill his ambition ot rule the world? Wouldn't it make more sense to make good healthcare available to all Americans, to provide housing for the homeless and good education for the deprived. What is the point of spending it all on the ambitions of rich politicians who will never suffer the problems that normal working class Americans face every day? Why kill your young soldiers in wars that are not your business?

Why not take care of your own people and mind your own business?

Dear Graham H, the United Nations was created to be a world watchdog, and a way for grieviances to be aired in a controlled arena. But the american politicians decided that wasn't good enough, just to be part of a group. No glory there boys.
I would really like to know why they try to enforce their opinions on other countries.
Their constitution doesn't say "go forth and take over the world" does it? Their founding fathers must be turning in their graves.
When did the leaders decide they were right and everyone else was wrong?
The situation in Iraq is a classic example. They installed Sadam as dictator, then uninstalled him (understatement of the year), and now say "what Iraq needs is a dictator"!!
But to be fair, it's the politicians who make these decisions, not the average American just making his way in the world.
This is why it's important to vote.
Your point about misplaced public spending is right on the button.
How many disabled, disadvantaged, homeless and ill people could have been protected by wisely spent taxes?
In every country of the world, not just the good old US of A.

Did you know that 20% of the 2006 budget of our country was for the defense department and 60% was for Government supported social systems. It would seem that if 60% of our entire budget was spent on social systems, that we could do a better job with the money we already spend to make sure medical costs does not drag on the Americans. Throwing more money on a system that doesn't work will only waste more money not fix a thing. On the other hand if we reduce our military spending it will only be a few years before all the money in the world will be needed for medical and social costs, since our country will be lost to socialism anyhow.

They say there is no such thing as a stupid question, hope you don't think this is a stupid answer... but ehre goes....

You claim ambitions of world rule? Do you have any examples of countries that are ruled by US after a war or use of military power? Lets see now..... Germany, Japan, North Africa, Italy, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Yougoslavia, Kuwait... or any of the other smaller skirmishes around the world? Yeah... you see our flag flying high over their capital building don't you!!!

As far as spending dollars on defense instead of giving it away to people with low ambitions.... the explanation is much to involved to answer here. Go take a world history class or two and then get back to me. Basically, at least some of those ambitious political leaders you talk about, have enough sense to understand that freedom has to be protected, and that protection does not come cheaply. It is also a debt that must be paid over and over.

Why would you care what America spends its money on ?

if you want Americans to have national health care, then why not call you PM and ask your country to pay for it.

America does provide housing for the homeless.

America spends more per capita on education than any country on earth, except Norway. 536 billion dollars on K-12 education in 2004.

I wonder, why you ask America to mind its own business, right after you butt your nose into America's business...lol

financing your president's agenda is a good form of investment as it will satisfy more of your political wants...but this is not the case when you're president's gone awry.
