Guitarman: you are entitled to your opinions, but please don't belittle other answerers who may indeed have views on why certain musical instruments are best in certain ways. For instance, some musical instruments may have the most pleasant sounds to the ears, say harpsichord for instance. Or some muscial instrument may be the best for young children to learn, like an electric organ. I'm looking for best in different aspects, and answerers are free to voice their views.

the bagpipes, cause i play them and they are a symbol of scottish culture!! They are hard to play and learn to play but once you get the hang of it, its the most rewarding instrument!! You should have a try, but dont worry if you faint a few times to begin with!
Or my second choice my violin!

I would agree that the question is a bit odd but...piano has to be the most versatile instrument on the planet. It's complex, it has the widest range of possible notes and sounds for a single musician. I can't play it (I play the guitar) but guitars are far simpler to play - that's why so many people play it! Piano all the way.

I love the guitar. I just think that it's one of the most sensual and sexy instruments. Of course it depends a lot on the player as well, but you could make it scream, wail, or rumble out any emotion your feeling. For me the sound of a guitar hits my soul, full force. And more likely than not it's got a good beat you can swing your hips too. Yes, that is an important aspect for me. ;P

All instruments are only as good as who is playing them and
everyone has their on opinions.
My favorites are :
The late Buddy Rich on Drums
Roy Clark on Guitar - especially playing Black Molly
Harpo Marx on the Harp - you could feel it
The late Boots Randolf on the Sax - he recorded Yakety Sax
Jerry Lee Lewis on Piano - he made it rock
It just adds upto Different Strokes for Different Folks
and there is one beautiful Rock & Roll Heaven !

the "best" lead instrument is the electric guitar. the "best" bass instrument is the bass guitar. the "best" athmospheric instrument is the synthesizer and I think the "best" rythm instrument is the drum or drum machine. I guess the bass guitar is most "easy" to start with, but each instrument can be challenging when it is taken to higher levels.

OK, so let's say drums are the best. So now that all other instruments are worse, we should dump them all and all music should be played on drums! Yipee, a stupid question has been answered!
THINK A LITTLE! USE THE BRAIN FOR A MOMENT! There is no "best" in any sense!

You can play it solo and it just sounds great by it's self.

Saxaphone-because it is soothing to the ears and it can relax you after a long day at work. It has such a mellow sound.
