Both India and Pakistan have stated a 'nuclear policy' of self-defense. Each has agreed to avoid the use of their nuclear weapons unless attacked. India's possession of nuclear weapons is not likely to threaten other nations or encourage them to obtain their own nuclear arms. This is the most important element to the "non-proliferation" of nuclear weapons.

If Iran, a radical Shia regional power and a proven sponsor of terrorism does obtain nuclear weapons then other Sunni nations (e.g.Saudi Arabia, Egypt, U.A.E.) have vowed to pursue their own nuclear programs. Additionally, many irresponsible religious leaders and the very president of Iran have threatened to "wipe Israel off the map". This will be a certain recipe for a destructive nuclear confrontation that could easily spread beyond the Middle East.

Any debate on whether India has the right to have nuclear weapons in pointless - they have them. Both India and Pakistan developed these weapons because the other county was making them.

As to being trust worthy, it seems that is the case. Both India and Pakistan have shown restraint and clear thinking in their dealings with each other and refrained from using the atomic bomb.

What every country in the world should be doing now is preventing the situation where any country feels the need to have nuclear/atomic weapons to protect themselves.

In my view that Atom Bomb can only be used on civilian including women and children. What is the object of having Atom Bomb. Present issue is to stop spread of Atomic weapons and not to draw a line between the trustworthy and untrustworthy nations. India has conflicts with its neighbors. Having Atomic weapons put a nation into threatening pose.

Definitely. Not only India, all countries have a right to have nuclear weapons. If it is ok for countries like USA and Russia to have nuclear weapons, then why not any other country?

How do you qualify a country to be 'trustworthy' ? Was the US 'trustworthy' when it dropped the first bomb on Hiroshima ? And its not like we have just acquired the nuclear weapons ...its been with us for ages & we have not misused it.

India is always trustworthy , but it has its own disadvantages, which could break this trust , though it intends to be one but finally fails to be one.
