In one word - YES

Nokia, like Microsoft seem to have a policy of launching a new device knowing that it has frimware bugs and glitches and will await feedback from the consumers who complain about the problems. They will then launch a software upgrade to fix the known bugs.
This process will keep going around until the 4th or 5th software upgrade until all bugs are fixed.
The N series is on its 3rd or 4th software update at the moment so they will soon become a good range of phones to use.
It makes total sense (although frutrating for the end user) to operate like this as there is no way that the research labs can simulate every possible glitch until the device is operating on a real live network.
The software upgrades are available via the web using the data cable or at Nokia Repair Centre which are situated in various Car Phone Warehouse's free of charge if in warranty (please note, this upgrade flashes the devices memory and will restore to factory settings losing all data stored on it)
The tip is, don't go out and buy a new phone until it is known to be bug free.
