The discovery that the electron was a subatomic particle was made in 1897 by J.J. Thomson at the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University, while he was studying cathode ray tubes.

It is J.J Thomson, an english physicist in 1897.
However, he hadn't found the protons and proposed the atom as something like a cake studded with raisins; the raisins were the electrons.
Later, this proposal will be corrected by Rutherford.

JJ Thomson (in 1897) is generally credited with discovering the electron.
