I never played board games as a child, but made up for it when I had children of my own. I liked chess, and for a game for more than two players, scrabble was the favourite.
Scrabble involves a certain amount of skill and knowledge, not just luck. It also helped in a fun way with the children's spelling, learning new words, and simple maths, also, how not to be a bad loser and of course, it meant family time together.
I haven't played it for years but it was good training ground for Countdown.

I liked Sorry and Scrabble as well. It's been a long time since I played Sorry, but I played Scrabble online a few months or so ago.

Does Warhammer count? It's a lead soldiers game with dragons, elves, orcs and knights. I started playing that when I was 12 and have played it for about 15 years now. I play it about once or twice a month. I played 2 days ago and won a close game.
Here is the website of this game:

My popular board interest is minutiae Pursuit. The final interest I performed became into Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader. I performed with my nieces, and the youngest beat us all. That became into on Christmas.
