You can give a little water to your baby, I used to give my babies water. I would warm it up a little. You can't give her too much, my guess is she probably won't have anything to do with it, they don't like it usually. I don't know if you're breast feeding or not but some formulas can cause constipation. Talk to her pediatrician about it.
P.S just FYI the girl above (sounds like a teenager) said pat the baby on the back if she chokes, NEVER DO THAT! If she's choking it can lodge it or force it deeper. But you probably knew that. ; )
"currently, the Department of Health recommends that babies should be fed nothing but milk," Yada yada yada. They say alot of things that people need to take it or leave it. Anyone with experience can tell you a little warm water is fine and diluted, runny baby cereal in the bottle with a larger hole in the nipple at 3 months is fine too for alot of babies. My son couldn't get full on milk or formula, so I gave him that and spoon fed him thicker baby cereal a week later. Even though all the books and Dept. of Health say not to, he is 15 yrs. old now 6 ft. 3" tall 240 lbs and not a bit of fat, just rock solid and he never had any stomach trouble or any other consequences from his diet either. Moms need to do what suits their baby best, that's what your maternal instincts are for. Good luck and the best to your baby girl.

The doctors really don't recommend it- breast milk or formula is all they need for quite a while... you can try a baby suppository to help the constipation if it is a big problem... you can also call your doctor and just talk to a nurse about some good options since your baby is so little- If you give the baby formula sometimes switching the formula will stop constipation happening.

I never gave my son water until he was 6 months old. Breastmilk is more than 90% water, and I'm not sure about formula, but it contains a lot of water, too. They get all the hydration they need from breastmilk/formula. Iron can cause constipation. You need to check with your doctor to see what he recommends. I don't think giving water is going to do much good.

it isn't necessary to give your newborn water. Most babies get enough fluids from breast milk or infant formula. Even when a mother's milk supply is just coming in during the first few days after delivery, the baby is getting colostrum, which is enough to keep the baby well hydrated. Because a newborn's kidneys are immature, she has a difficult time concentrating her urine, and if given too much plain water, may have trouble excreting it. This could lead to dangerous changes in the concentrations of sodium and potassium in her bloodstream. For these reasons, infants should not be given extra fluids unless their pediatrician recommends it.

Call your Dr. My daughter had bad constipation. My Dr. had me give her baby prune juice from 2 weeks old on. It worked great but check with yours before giving your baby any.
My daughter had to be on Nutramigen Formula was the only kind she could keep down. Made her BM/s like Rocks. The prune juice worked wonders.

I was specifically told to never give my infant water. However, aunts and neighbors I've spoken to say they were told to give their children water years ago, so who knows what's true. I would err on the side of caution and not give any water. Breast milk is best. I would call your pediatrician and speak to a nurse. He/she may recommend Pedialyte or some other treatment. A friend of mine was told by her ped to mix a few teaspoons of juice with an ounce of water.

Your babies stomach is not ready for the type of contaminates and bacteria that are in water. A quick way to relieve your baby is to use a glycerin stick. It goes up the rectum, maybe 1/4 in. in and they are almost instantly relieved. I had to use it on my daughter when she was about the same age. Good luck!

U can give them water just use nursery water not tap water. and I wouldn't give them too much at a time but water doens't really hurt as long as its not consumed in mass amounts. I would say an ounce here and there. Not sure if water will help for constipation though. We had to use dark kayro syrup in my oldest sons bottles to keep him regular.

I wouldn't give her any more than an ounce every hour. Also, she may get choked, but just pat her little back. Also, if you stick a therometer in her bottom that will help. Also, a warm bath works too. Good luck!
