Ex: The boy was (hung/hanged)?? Or He (hung/hanged) himself.

In many references they use both but I don't know which one is correct... Please help!!!!

my grammar teacher told me that you use the word HANG when you mean a person is suspended in a rope or something.

and when you mean a thing or non-person is suspended, you should use HUNG.

when in doubt....use...."he strangled himself with a rope"!!!

Just kidding.

Actually, I usually go to dictionary.com

Search the word and they give the word in a sentence which usually helps out.

And...if you go there now and search "hanged" you will see that they say "hung" is the appropriate usage for "4. to put to death by suspending by the neck from a gallows, gibbet, yardarm, or the like. "
