About 4 hours ago my phone fell into a shallow rockpool at the beach, it was in there for about 20 seconds until we got it out. It's a brand new Nokia 6288, expensive phone so I can't afford for it to break! I have no idea if it has warranty or insurance..

I didn't try to turn it on until about 20min later but I think the battery is stuffed up anyways. i took everything apart and dried it with a blowdryer but now all the salt has crystallized and the sliding is screwed up, and I bet the whole inside of the phone is surrounded in crystals!
It won't turn on and the screen is fogged up still

Please, PLEASE don't tell me it won't work again!!!
does anybody know any places I can take it to to get repaired within the southern/sydney area? or even repair it myself?

So will I get warranty on this? In the manual it vaguely says I will, but my friends says it's only if the phone company is responsible for the damage.

Sorry to tell you but you should have been more careful with your phone as salt + water = worse oxydation ever, you won't be able to repair it. Ask for insurance at your retailer but if you don't know or if you didn't sign anything, then you're probably screwed...

i have left my phone in my pants and put my pants through the wash and it has been fine 2 out of the 3 times i've done that.

at first it wouldnt turn on but then the next day, i guess after it dried out, it worked fine. one of the times it didnt work though...

as for the salt, the salt should probably grind down enough from sliding to where the crystals are too small to be a problem.

I have beat up my past Nokia's so bad, and you know what, they can really take a beating. (Atleast the models I had.) I have dropped my phones in puddles a few times, and I did the same thing you did, just take them apart, put them next to a vent or fan, let them dry out for awhile and that would do it. However, the buttons never worked quite the same again, and it is possible your screen will never fully come back, but still functional. Give it a day before you flip. Hope it gets better!

normally the best way to remove salt water is washing again with salt-free water, but i wouldn't advise that: try to clean them aprt with a wet (not dripping) softcloth (of the kind you'd use for glasses)

Your attempt to turn it on without fully drying it with the blower may have very well caused some internal short circuit (likely at the battery/phone interface).

Sorry, but the stakes your phone is dead are high.

You may try to get a new battery and see what happens...

you should have a warranty so go search the box that it came in. your phone is probably gone - water is bad enough, salt totally screws it up. the parts that can be rusted will probably begin to rust already...
