We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'." Beverly Clark (Susan Sarandon).

I loved Shall We Dance, and my husband actually liked it too, which is rare for a Richard Gere movie. I normally go watch them on my own (it's a private thing). I found the story, of rekindling the romance in a marriage very encouraging, and Richard, and Susan Sarandon were well matched, age wise, for once.

'Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'

while this quote is as poetic and pithy and sincere as all get out and has a certain value, granted, i am not aware that the One Great Supreme Eternal Soul requires the *illusion* of a witness.

I've just watched it yesterday and it's great. I love the way they dance and, in the end, that they are not ashamed of what are they doing. I don't know why the most of the guys are ashamed of telling that they are in a dance school, and some who would like to dance won't go 'cause they are worried what will others say. isn't that stupid?

To me this is the title of a truly fine Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire film from 1937 with a Gershwin score.

I try to not watch anything with Susan Sarandon in it. If I want preaching from someone I don't respect, I'll go to the church of a disgraced minister like Jimmy Swaggert.
