It does prevent unsightly wrinkles and ripples in their super-hero attire. I'm guessing that is why, unless it can somehow survive re-entry into the atsmosphere with no damage, which begs the question why don't they coat the space shuttle in spandex?

Well I think Catwoman wears leather or vinyl which makes her superhot.

At least our superheroes don't wear little hot pants like in Japanese anime.
