When will they stand against the violent crime
in their communities and become pro-active
against crime, and not enablers?

When will they become enraged with
the bloody crime?

It is mostly African-Americans killing
African-Americans. And mostly
gang related.

Can there be any resolution and peace?

Most members of the community live in fear
of these criminals. They must come forward
and address the problem. They must be
committed to sweep them out of their neighborhood.

I admire you for taking a stance in your community. Unfortunately, I believe crime is running amok in most communities now. Young people are not getting the proper guidance in the homes, not being taught manners and morality in the schools, the churches are doing little to help, and the result is what you are seeing on the streets in your neighborhood, and mine.

Laws tend to favor the criminal, and the justice system is more concerned about making cases and money for the lawyers, as well as advancing their prospective political careers, that true justice has fallen by the wayside.

Low income, lack of attention to the needs of those who are not financially well off, and the lack of jobs only adds fuel to the fire. This country has become a place where only the rich seem to be able to survive, and the rest of the working folks toil for their wages and get further and further into debt.

It's becoming a nationwide "people problem" that crosses the race barriers. Black, white, Hispanic... they are all being sucked up into this vacuum. And it's sad, it really is.

Only when communities stand together against gangs, violence, poverty, and hatred, will they stop this flow. Politicians make promises they never keep. At election time, they have all the answers. But when elected, they forget those who placed them in office. Retribution must be at the voting booths to deal with that issue.

Once again, I commend you for being so concerned, and I do pray that a solution can be found, for all our sakes.

For the record: I don't consider a man's color...just the man. Over the years I've come to believe that African-Americans are their own worst enemy. They perpetuate their own stereotype. Take the case of Mr. Obama who is trying to win the Democratic nomination for President. From an article I read certain blacks say he's not "black enough" and since his family tree has no slaves in it then he's not really black. ??? Since when does any black person have to be "black enough"? Would he be black enough if he robbed a gas station? Or car-jacked and gotten caught? Many blacks were angry with Bill Cosby when he addressed the very same subject as your question. Angry because here was a black man with the audacity to speak out badly against his own people. I watch BET (BlackEntertainmentTelevision) for the comedy shows. I think black comedians are very funny up to the point that they begin dissing on the white race. I am appalled at the jokes not because I am white but appalled because if a white comedian began making jokes about black people then the blacks would scream "RACISM" and the white comedian would called on the carpet. Seems like a double standard to me. My opinion , for what it's worth, is that if black people quit trying to be "black enough" and just tried to be people that most issues of racism would eventually die out. And the crime that exists in most black neighborhoods would be no worse than the crime in any other neighborhood..

I couldn't have said it better. I've been battling the so-called black leaders who always blame everyone else for the problems of our people. Of course, they make quite a few bucks out of the whole deal, then disappear into their mansions, leaving us to pick up the pieces. We can't begin to solve the problem until we learn how to control our own behavior. If we ban guns, they'll just kill each other with hammers.
