If yes, why is it popular? What's its selling point?

It WAS popular when I was a teen in the '70's.
Back then, it was unusual and unique.

Nowadays, it is popular among either Americans who like the nostalgia of them or Americans who are too young to have had them on their first time around.

I didn't like them in the seventies, I still don't like them, now. I didn't like them then, because my brother DID like them... and he was on drugs and was very abusive.. so I didn't like anything associated with him. I don't like them now, because in all practicality, they don't offer much light. They are about as usefull as an aquarium full of dead fish.

Not anymore, it's quite tacky really.
At one time they were like 30-40 years ago.
