Hi

WIth a hand value of 16 you have a 62% Bust chance if you hit. But, then you have to consider what the dealer has.

The dealer has a king. This equates to a 21.43% probability that the dealer will bust. BUT, that is AFTER you have had your turn. So what do you do??

The odds, when you have sixteen, and the dealer a king are against you according to mathematical probabilities. Your player Player Advantage % with Basic Strategy is only -16.9% (and YES, its NEGATIVE - and this means that this is really bad).

You can still win, but the odds are stacked up against you, and in the long run, you will lose.

The answer is surrender if you can, hit if you can't.

Actually, the complete answer is that it depends on the complete set of rules in effect at the time.

But general basic strategy says Surrender or Hit.

Basic or optimal strategy cards are available all over the internet. The Wizard of Odds site is probably the best (seems down currently).

The rule of thumb is that you always count the down card as a "10". So then the answer is yes.

The only exception is if you've been counting cards and your count is in favor of there being more small cards in the deck.

The theory is as follows: start @ 0, for every face card or ten subtract 1 and for every card between A-6 add 1. If you are in the negative #'s then there are more small cards in the deck, if the # is positive then there are more "10" cards left (the better to double down).

Good luck.

Personally, yes I do - every time. Now that may (or may not) be correct strategy but I'd rather take my chance on hitting a small card than sit there and watch the dealer take me out.
