isn't global warming a media myth as all the major media promote this idea and very little to those who debunk it?

how do you know this is not a cycle?? from about 800 A.D to 1300 A.D we had the Medieval Warm Period where the world was as warm or warmer than it is today.

so you are litreally saying we are responisble for this and therefore probably can change the climate! if you take the whole time the earth has been here, humans have barely lived for a few seconds when compared! there have been ice ages and years where the temperature of the planet was warmer than it is now. how do you know this is not a cycle ?

1946 until 1975, while industrialization expanded and carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere increased, urban surface temperatures actually cooled. At the time, many in the media feared a new ice age.

Warming and cooling of the Earth has been going on for thousands of years. In Roman times grapes were grown as far north as Newcastle and in the 16th and 17th centuries we had a 'mini ice age. Whilst parts of the Arctic and Antarctic shelf are breaking up the interior ice is thickening. There is a school of thought that believes that if you get rid of carbon emissions and take other 'green' steps you will hasten the next ice age.

From what I have read of the Government's 'green' policy it seems to be yet another cash cow, This country produces only 2% of the world's carbon emissions so why punish us with our rubbish collections for heaven's sake. Tax, that's what.

The eco-crowd has put themselves in a great position with this deception. Since gloabl warming is a cycle, they cna beat the drum about it until it naturally begins to reverse itself. Then they can pat themselves on the back and take credit for saving the earth. It is a win-win scenario.

Global warming is mostly a myth. It is part of a natural pattern. 30 years ago, scientists were warning us of the next ice age because of global cooling. It is a political ruse, not a scientific fact. Yes the planet is getting warmer, but no, it is not the fault of humans. Check out the Newsweek article from 1975 on global cooling here:

I have seen several informative programs on the History Channel concerning the Warm Period of the Middle Ages, when mean temperatures were higher than they are now in our "global warming" period.
I won't discount global warming and call it a myth, however, because I'm no expert. But it seems to me that we need to look at the the Earth as a whole, and look to history to see that climatic shifts have occured throughout the millenia on this planet.
I just keep remembering that one of the researchers on that History Channel program made a joke concerning the Warm Period by saying, "Those Medieval knights must have been driving their SUV's quite a bit back then".

I too have a problem with the media on this subject for the same reasons. If they want to report all the scientific facts they would give both sides, they refuse and ridicule instead. They refuse to report that the polar bears are thriving, that ice is increasing, and man is not responsible for anything. If this winter had record cold they report it as further "proof" of global warming! How can you have it both ways? Global Warming is pure speculation, maybe, could be, possibly, near, far, etc. It definitely has been proven to be more a political agenda than a scientific fact.

Global Warming is happening for real and the media are trying to spread information on what can happen if serious measures against global warming aren't taken soon. Read about the melting of the polar ice caps that is taking place at a rapid rate. Global Warming is causing rise in temperatures all around the world - compare the temperature records for the year 1997 or before the date with those of 2003, 2004 ,2005, 2006 you'll see the sigificant rise in temperatures. These rises can have disastrous effects on the world. Water levels are rising all over the world and the world could soon be deep under water. In case you haven't noticed there has beena rise in the number of storms in the past few years and even their intensity is reigning higher. You must have read about the green house gas emissions those to have contributed towards Global Warming. Go check a few environmental sites and you'll know that antartica has a huge ozone hole on top of it which has caused the ice to melt rapidly. Observe the climate in your city there have been many changes infrequent rainfall etc. Keep in mind global warming is for real and will soon be leading humans to their end if proper measures aren't taken soon.

I think *Shruti* is asking whether WE, humans are responsible for global warming, not whether global warming is happening. There was a mini ice age during Charles Dickens' time which is why traditional Christmas cards depict snowy scenes. Victorians use to go skating on the Thames. I agree that the earth goes in cycles but do wonder if human activities are helping it along rather more quickly than if we weren't here.

there a few good answers to both but i think Mr Wise has hit the idea right ...
also yes i do believe it goes in cycles and others above have also stated ...but lets take 5 more mins to think about it ....here in the uk its slowly taking affect that there will be a climate levy charge ....so the old addage that only the air is free will soon pass and they will whack a tax on that too very soon and this process is in play now ..

and they spread it through the media and various websites to make us all aware then try to make us feel guilty for the carbon foot print we use ...so you will eventually be assested on this and charged .....will they spend this on combating the said problem ....just more money for the coffers of the goverments....as always through out history make the mass's pay

One time i heard a reporter interviewing a Hurricane expert. The expert was saying hurricanes happen in cycles not because of 'global warming'. The reporter would not take no for an answer and kept insisting there must be some connection. NOPE. They scientist (boring as he was) would not give in.

THEN I heard a sea level expert (self proclaimed liberal gore voter) who said sea levels are not rising out of the norm and the catastrophic implications in Gores propaganda are outlandish. He felt we should be spending our time and money on much more certain causes. He actually felt the damage to our economies was going to be catastrophic.. a liberal no less.

And he is right.

I heard something about the Ozone Layer apparently repairing itself. So much for the old theory on it being buggered beyond doubt.

Scientists and weathermen only look back about one hundred years and base all their scientific data and evidence on 100 years of climate and then make big sweeping judgements about the state of the planet.

Are we really that vain to think we little men of Earth can destroy a planet? I don't believe any of it, one day there'll probably be another Ice Age and they'll shut the hell up about carbon emissions.

I think Global Warming is going on. The government seem to use it as an excuse to over tax the public. No one has, to my knowledge come up with any info regarding the wars taking place and the effect all these have on Global Warming, example, all the bombs going off. Nuclear testing and so on.
