I do not get my period anymore. I am only 20 years old and I have no had my period for about 5 months. I was just wondering, does a person have to be getting their period to become pregnant? The doctor told me I may be less fertile because I have polycystic ovarian syndrom, is this because I do not get my period anymore? I thought the reason u ovulate depends on getting ur period?

Actually, you're period dependson when you ovulate. You need to ovulate (release the egg) so the sperm can find the egg (to conceive). Polycystic Ovarian Sydrome can cause infertility due to lack of ovulation. Go to website, or you could google it.

Well, I don't know your whole situation but there is a possibility you could be pregnant now. Did you have sex with your boyfriend or anyone else 5 months ago? If you did and if you are pregnant, your periods stop during pregnancy. However, If you have not had sex and there is no way you could be pregnant, then perhaps you are on birth control. Birth control can limit or stop periods sometimes. If that isn't it either then, You really should get another doctor's opinion. If the next doctor says the same as the first, find out what you can do to fix it like medication or surgury.

Yes, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome can cause one to go without their period for several months. I deal with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome as well.

Is your dr treating your PCOS right now? If not then I would ask for a referral to an endocrinologist to help you treat this.
