It is the reason we live. That is generally speaking. However in specific issues like 'hoping you win a lottery', 'hope I do well in my exams' etc., HOPE is the driving force from within and is a very positive feeling.
One can have too much of a desire but not too much of a hope.
Though in common parlance we do use 'little' or 'more' hope I beleive 'Hope' is an absolute word like 'unique'. You have hope or you dont but you cant have little or more of it. As long as one has hope he carries on expecting a positive outcome whether it is a specific issue, like recovering from an illness, or life in general.

Yes, i think it can be bad to have too much hope, you could be hoping for something etc when in reality it is not feasible. I mean i can hope that soon i'll get to have a holiday, but i've got 3 young children and a husband who is about as useful as **** on a bull, you get me, i can hope and hope i'll get a break but it's not going to happen and if i fool my self into thinking otherwise i'll just be disappointed, hope is great providing it's realistic and possible

Hope is believing that you will acheive a particular goal. Sometimes it's ok to have a a lot of hope, when you are hopeful that you're children will succeed in live for example. Other times, it's best to expect the worst, like when you are waiting to win the lottery, or get your drivers license renewed. These are the times that you will not be disappointed if you fail, but will be especially relieved if you succeed.

Ever thought of looking it up in the dictionary? (jus a suggestion)...and yea one can have too much hope (whatever that is). Having too much hope is bad as well as good, it depends on how you look at it. Does that answer your question?

Anything that is too much is not good. Same true of having too much hope.. you have to expect the unexpected!

Where there's life, there's hope. Hope is life and the faith in life. And you can never have enough life or hope.

To want something you have is love.
To want something you don't have is hope.
It is good to have more love than hope, because hope is despair (look at "despair" in a philosophical dictionary).
