One isn't harder to look after then the other but they do need different amounts of water for live healthfully. "Simple" goldfish like commons and comets are pond fish, they can live in a tank for a while but they will need at least 20 gallons each and should really be moved out to a pond within a year, if not you will need around 50 gallons each fish. Fancy goldfish can also live out in ponds but they do well in tanks but still need large tanks. For each baby fancy you will need 10 gallons but will need 20+ each when adults. The slim bodied goldfish can grow 12-18 inches and fancies can grow 8-12 inches.

The fancy orandu goldfish suffer from swim bladder trouble a lot as they are specially bred that round shape, which in turn creates their swim bladders and other organs to be the wrong shape. I have had numerous orandus, only one lived 12 years but for about 3 of them he was upside down nearly the whole time, and the last 3 we had to hold him to feed and he kept propped up on the tank bubble pipe. We had to have him put down in the end as his kidneys packed in and he got dropsy. The other ones lived only a couple of years.

I have normal simple ones and these live the longest as their internal organs are the shape nature intended them to be. Always ensure your water in spotless, use tap fresh and goldfish safe when you change the tank and have a good fluval filter, feed them blood worms (frozen or live)as these are good for the fishes health and scales and you should have very few problems.

Unless you have a large tank or pond I wouldn't recommend Goldfish at all!
The Fancy ones are more prone to disease but suit a large tank enviroment better than the normal fish!
The goldfish grows large if allowed to reach it's full potential and keeping them in small tanks or bowls permanently is actually very cruel! They stop outwardly growing but the internal organs don't! This leads to disease or sudden unexplainable death.
They are easy to keep if you have a filter and are prepared to clean and change the water(20-30% weekly). If you want small fish in a small tank without the expense of a heater, I'd recommend White Cloud Mountain Minnows and a small Otocinclus algae eater.

As a wide-spread rule you may have a million inch of fish for each a million gallon of water in a tank, so that you'll in effortless words have 10 one-inch fish, or 5 2-inch fish, etc. in case you do not comprehend the pH of your water it really is safer to stay with goldfish. Goldfish are tolerant of wider water high quality, and take decrease temperatures. maximum tropical fish calls for mushy, particularly acid to impartial water at temperatures between seventy 2° and seventy 8°F. All fish will do extra appropriate if wide-spread water transformations are performed. once a month remove 2 gallons of water from the aquarium. fill up with 2 gallons of sparkling water dealt with adverse to chlorine and ammonia. also, preserving your aquarium out of image voltaic will save down algae boost. The plecostamus (plecos) strengthen to twelve inches, so are not to any extent further appropriate on your small tank. Your 10 gallon tank is too small for saltwater fish, which also require water qc. Ciclids, and any fish that strengthen more suitable than 4 inches also require a minimum of a 29 gallon tank (12" x 30" x 18" deep).

The normal simple goldfish are more easier to look after because they are hardier. The fancy types like fantails and veiltails and bubble eyes are prone to disease without the proper care.

Normal goldfish are easier. They can live pretty much anywhere where as fancy goldfish are high maintenance and die very easily. I wouldn't recommend Fancy's until your a little more experienced.

The easyest are normal single tailed Goldfish. fancy fish due to there breeding and compacted size bodies tend to suffer more with illnesses, swimbladder being the most common. Goldfish are alot tougher also than the fancy fish. Through my experience I find fancy fish pretty hard to care for from all the fish I have (goldfish and tropicals) The trick with fancy fish is to vary the diet alot, feeding bloodworms, shelled peas and Daphinia help there digestive system more with there compact bodies.

If this is your 1st time keeping fish I would go for a goldfish to start.

Single tailed common GF are the easiest to keep. The fancier you get the more delicate they are. Here's a list from easiest to hardest to keep.
common GF
Comet / shubunkin
fantail / wakin
ryukin
oranda
lionhead / ranchu
demekin (moor or globe eyed GF)
celestial
bubble eye
tosakin
Don't mix single tailed GF with any fish below oranda. Keep demekin with demekin only
Keep celetails with celetials only
Keep bubble eyes with bubble eyes only
Ryukin, oranda, lion head and ranchu can be kept together.
Gold fish CANNOT live in bowls. Need 10 gallons per fish, heat at 77 degrees, filter (bio-wheels are great), and fine mist airstones at about 1 per 20 gallons.

I see most people recomend not having fancies.
Keep the tank clean
Half change the water each week
good water filter
Aerate the water correctly
and if they show signs of fin rot
or bladder disorder get the medicine from the pet shop
problem solved
