I personally do not subscribe to the present system of reservation. Whether it is necessary?....I think it is (unfortunately, but it is!). But certainly not in its current form.
Presently, it's all about vote-bank politics. I think, in higher education, no reservation on the grounds of caste alone be allowed. In higher education, professional courses etc, only merit should prevail. Government should use 'economic' criterion for granting reservation, if any, and not caste. Alternatively, it can always provide scholarships, concessions, other financial assistance to those 'economically backwards'. I think rendering the so called benefits of reservation to students from 'creamy layers' is purely criminal. If not many students from backward castes are taking education, it has very little to do with the caste, but more with the financial condition & other social/mental prejudices. Govt needs to educate them about the benfits of education, relieve them off any financial restraints and they would be part of mainstream soon.
Ambedkar had once famously remarked, "Minorities will remain minorities until they think themselves as minorities". Likewise, if we keep segregating these backward communities under the guise of reservation, they would never be part of mainstream.

SCs/OBCs are still treated as untouchables. They do not enjoy the fruit of economic growth. Almost all Business Houses and Govt. depts are headed by upper caste people and they prefer their own caste in the matter of employment at top and middle levels. SCs/OBCs are given only menial jobs. They still lack education due to high cost. They should be given equal opportunity so as to compete with others before doing away with reservation. Such opportunities should also be given to other economically backward communities.

It is a very complicated matter. It is true that there are many backward groups and tribes without reservation who may never get to sit in an exam,on the other hand the modern rat race demands exellence and hence reservation should be regarded as an unforgiveable consequence.

Reservation system is on the basis of caste , Instead of bringing economic and social development in the backward sections it is leading to their dependence on govt in the form of free education ,scholarships and so on in our country. People enjoying reservation are considering as birthright to extract maximum gains in every walk of life, with minimum efforts. This trend is affecting the merit and excellence in every field.crores of public money is getting wasted for noncommited ,non talented people sacrificing the merit and competent people in the name of reservation .This situation can change when we put an end to caste based politics .

I do not belong to OBC or any other category who is stand to get any benefit from reservation from the Central Government. But, I feel that reservation can be allowed, on a condition that it shall not continued for perpetuity, but only for a limited period say for 20 or 30 years.

Caste based reservation is not acceptable. India is a secular country and asking religion and caste for any reason is not good. Economical reservation will help the poor to come up.

no,i don't agree.the middle class n even the rich people feel small in front of these people as these have been given much much importance.the government should provide them school education or scholarship but they should not get seats in colleges.they should enter colleges with their ability.the students who word hard for so much time, don't get seats, get dissappointed n sometimes commit suicide.
