Thanks for looking. I was let go from my previous job around 3 months ago, and have been receiving one $800.00 check in the mail each month. Does anyone know why this is happening? I did not apply for unemployment or anything like that. Thanks

To answer the questions, The check comes with taxes and everything taken out already. It is just a mailed check.

maybe payroll made a mistake? in that case, if someone discovers the error... they might want you to pay back the money, so you might want to get some legal advice on this matter

Well, it might be an error. What country you in too? That seems strange though. Look at your contract if you did sign one, to see if they have to pay you some type of residual payment if you are let go and not fired. Then how is the check being sent. Is it a payroll type of check with taxes taken out. So many questions, if I can answer right. But otherwise, I could not haphazard a guess without more info. A payroll stub might reveal some insight. But if anything, just say that someone told you that it was money you recieved if you were let go and not fired from the company. Like a breach of contract payments.

Not sure, but can u tell me what this fabulous place is so I may submit my resume? lol
Seriously though, put in a letter to Human Resources, and inquire about this phenomenon! Otherwise you may get into some hot water with the IRS down the line.

I would contact them and find out why. They might have made an error. While it is nice to receive money, they may want it back when they discover the mistake. Additionally you might find it wise to consult with an attorney, they could tell your rights, maybe you don't have to pay it back. Good Luck.
