I have only just started using Ebay, I placed a bid for something yesterday and am currently winning, now unfortunately I have changed my mind and no longer want the item. How can I cancel my bid? Or even, can I cancel my bid?

Thanks in advance.

I'm a seller on Ebay and I have had this exact same situation with a buyer. It's not too bad if you bidded after someone else - so that the item still sells with the bid before yours - but is annoying if yours is the only bid and without it the item remains unsold. In my case I was ok with the buyer and let it go, but you can get some moody people on there. Just email the seller and explain the situation - if they are half decent they'll understand.

You can't, the only way is if you accidently put in an incorrect bid eg. £100 instead of £1.00. If you win the item and refuse to pay the seller can then complain to eBay and they have the power to suspend or even cancel your account. The seller will also more than likely leave you some VERY negative feedback explaining that you , "changed your mind" making it difficult to buy anything in the future. Winning and not paying is one of the worst things you can do on eBay, so make sure you pay, even if you don't want the item.

The best thing to do is hope that someone outbids you, usually the most bidding happens within the last 10 minutes, with people trying to be sneaky bidders. If it is a popular item and you did not put you bid too high, it should be ok. But if not you can contact the seller and explain why you dont want it. Placing a bid is like entering into a contract, so you cant take it back.

you need to use the bid retraction of your eBay account if you cannot find it just search through the help section and type in "bi retraction" you will also need to make a note of the item number that you have bidded on this is the 12 digit number which is found at the top right of every sale item

you will then need to give a reason, usually most people put "entered wrong bid amount", this will then retract your bid and any bids you have made on this item only. Please be aware this will also be seen on the item bidded for.

the rules of ebay are clear

You bid, you win, you pay

you can retract your bid only in certain circumstances, but theres only 3 choices and if the seller reports you you will be in trouble with ebay, also if you dont pay up you will alsmost certainly get a neg comment and seeing as you've only just started using ebay that is not good for you

why not just let the auction run, if you win you could always resell, and even make money on it

You can withdraw it, but the seller will be rightly pissed off with you and it is put on record for all to see that you are likely to retract bids. This may mean that some sellers will refuse to accept your bids.

That's all unlikely for a one-off mistake, but if you make a habit of bidding and retracting, you'll find that no-one wants to do business with you.

You should treat a bid as binding.

You can cancel or retract your bid, but I think you need more of a reason to do it then just that you don't want the item any more. Usually its used for people that bidded the wrong amount.

Have a look at these two addresses, they will help:

Its easy to make mistakes when your unfamiliar with ebay and have done so myself before.Take advice in prev answers and unless the item is an absolute gotta have then dont get drawn into placing max bids and make your bid just above the last one so you are less commited.

I think you have to mutually with draw it with the seller. You'll have to message them saying you want to retract your bid. Do it now though, you don't want to win it.
