i m using pentium 4 pc ,i had 512 mb RAM and now i installed 512 MB RAM.in systems panel it is showing 1 GB RAM and the rest of the computer is working fine.but the cd and dvd drives icons r not showing.even when i insert the cd the light blinks but it doesn't play.what is wrong?i even checked the cable connections ,r all fixed.

chack in the bios can you find them. Goto device manager and chack for cd/dvd drives are they enabled

since cd & dvd drives r plug & play, thus this is a hardware problem, usually the memory r near the ide connectors it might be that the connector is loose, may be puttin in the wrong way, or maybe the jumper setting of the cd is master and it is connected to slave, check in the setup of the pc before entering the windows if the pc cannot detect ur cd rom the windows will not show the icon,
i am sure when u were installing the ram it might have been that time that u mistakenly inserted a wrong connection to cd-drive, just throughlt check it and ur prob will be solved
