My son is fifteen months old and hes having a hard time making the transition to a cup so I just let him take his bottle for now. Am I making a mistake or will it be ok to take it away in a few months?

a baby can trasition to a cup around 9 months. being on the bottle for a long time can cause teeth problems you can take it away cold turkey which takes lots of patients on your part when the baby gets hungry enough they will eat and another way is take one bottle away at a time and excahange for a cup take one away every few days

I had to take my son off the bottle at about 10 months because he was shaking it all over my house. He had a hard time grasping the difference between sippy cups and a bottle but it didn't take him long to figure out that he could sip it from the cup and spit it on the floor. He isn't going to starve and it's part of growing up and at 15 months, he is more than ready. My plan was 1 year old but of course I couldn't wait since he was making so many messes with his bottle. I would throw away all but one "I just can't get him to sleep and it's been 3 hours" bottle and don't let him have the control, because once he has it you are doomed. Best of luck to you.

Really push the sippy cup, are you using the ones with soft bottle-like nipples? It may take a while, but it will happen. I wouldn't just jerk it away, that's not only hard on you, but him too. Consider giving the sippy at meals for starters, and work up from there. The truth of the matter is, he WILL give it up, it just may take a while. My son gave his bottle up at 9 mons, on his own. The pacifier is another story. He's 2 and still wants it at night. I tell him big boys don't need them, and that's good during the day. But night time rolls around, and he doesn care if he's a big boy or not. I don't advocate a 6 year old having a bottle, but I say they'll be getting married soon enough, don't rush things when you don't have to.

I think you shouldnt take them straight off him, give him some time but gradually try.

Help him with the sippy cup try and show him how it works even if you have to have a few sips out of it but if he sees you doing this then he might not think its such a problem ..

And you could try just leaving the sippy cup around where he can reach it if he gets thirsty but dont give him the option of the bottle, let him cry for awhile because he knows u'll give in if he keeps crying for it. If he's thirsty then he'll drink from it

I had my daughter off the bottle and dummy at 12mths .. Shes now 23mths and has been drinking from cups just like us for months!

Good Luck

If you have a family member or a friend with a smaller baby. tell your child that the baby need his bottle and have him give it to the baby (be careful he doesn't throw it ) let it be his choice to give it to the baby and if he does then after that if he wants a bottle tell him he gave it to the baby (DONT GIVE IN) and now he gets a big boy cup. It has worked for me in the past

According to our pediatrician (sp??) we were advised that our son be off the bottle by 15 months. It was very easy for us as he didn't get used to the bottle, but he didn't mind.
