Or the school superintend of the school system. When I was ask about doing a survey of the Freshmen Academy we now have in our school system, I was told it could not be done as a public survey. I was to ask the teachers (not the students) on how it was going, because they would know better then anyone. As a school board member, I feel this is not the right answer. The parents as well as the students should have a voice in this matter. Please let me know what you think ?

NO ONE KNOWS ONESELF THAN A CHILD AND / OR A STUDENT WHEN IT COMES TO WHAT'S BEST FOR HIM IN TERMS OF COMPREHENSION OF VARIETY OF SUBJECTS AT SCHOOL, WHAT HE'S GOOD AT IN ALL PLACES, AND WHAT HE / SHE LIKES TO DO WHILE AT HOME AND WHAT HE / SHE IS ALL ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO RELATIONS...ETC.
So, it is a matter of combining all those together that really makes up the difference in HOW to ensure a CHILD is being fair to...
We usually underestimate a Child's thoughts, but it has been proven that his / her intelligence should never be underestimated ever...All we need to do is to give them a fair chance to express themselves right and freely...

As a school board member there is no reason that you should not be able to do a survey, as long as it is agreed upon by the whole board. What was the reason you were given for it not being allowed?
On the other side, it may be that your survey was more of a personal issue, and not one for the entire school population. I'm in the process right now, of writing a survey for the high school my son attends. I was asked by the school board to write one that surveys how the parents and students feel about the school, the board, the principal, the teachers, and things like that. It is general enough to get the information they want without any agenda.
Go back to the Superintendent and ask for an explanation. Then approach the Board and see if they are in agreement. The teachers do know most of what is happening at school, but they don't know everything.

I think all three parties - the parents, students, and teachers - should have a say. Only talking with one of these parties will give you skewed (read: unreliable) results. In order to survey the kids, you may have to get the parents' permission, but no one should be able to tell you whom you may and may not survey, as long as those surveyed are consenting individuals.

Yeah the parents should have more say in it, its not the teachers who are with them 24/7 its the parets and they know whats best for their kids more than anything
