We appear to have hundreds of leather jackets in our lawn that come out at night and can be seen crawling across our drive. They are about 30 mm long and 3-4 mm thick. Would these little creatures cause the grass to die and how can they be treated? Thanks
Geoff

Leather jacket are pupae of daddy long legs, they eat grass roots
and do a lot of damage leaving large areas brown. you can use
chemicals to kill them. you very often see starlings on the
lawn eating them.

I would set some traps using local high school thugs as bait, the leather coats will look great on them and your problem will be solved.
I just hope you never have long wool trenchcoats, THAT could be devastating to a garden.
