Will using software in my McAfee security centre do it?
If I am getting rid of my PC will formatting the hard drive do it?
Will files deleted from a certain area securely possibly still be viewable in other areas?

Yes. But i will tell you what happens. When you delete, only address from registry is removed. When you format, the whole registry is deleted but they are physically present on HDD till it is not over written. Now to first part of your question yes mcafee will delete it the same way as others and data will be recoverable So in any case data can be recovered. So it is better to make data unreadable. In offices there are shredding machines they cut those data on paper in un countable small pieces to the extent that it can't be re assembled & read. That is what mcafee shredder do. The take alpha & numeric value of your data and change the order of all the alphabet & numbers billion times & than it deletes so that data recoverd after that will be meaning less. So in order to destroy data use mcafee shredder or to that matter any other shredder. I hope you must have got the point. HAPPY!

Re-format your hard drive and put either UBUNTU or XUBUNTU on the hard drive. These OS' will repartition the hard drive and change the file system.
