Any photo editing software (PhotoShop, PrintShop, etc.) will allow you to edit the photo in the manner you are requesting. You have to create a "mask" in the size and shape of the object you want to change. Once the mask is created then make sure it is set to keep the image of you and drop the background, after that your image can be laid on top of any other background image you would like to have. The actual steps very by program used. As far as letting your webdesigner know what you want, just tell them that you want to mask out the background of the image.

The easiest way is to take the subjects picture against a solid background.

Use adobe photoshop or a similar image editing program to select a "color range" then delete it.

OR

You can use one of a few other tools, such as the "Magic Wand" which selects all adjacent pixels that match a specificed color range, this is typically more accurate since you wont be selecting the colors of the background, from the objects face aswell.

Either of those two, or the "lasso" tool are all excellent options.

If you have photoshop its pretty easy. All you need to do is click the magic want tool then click this box in the top toolbar which when the mouse hovers over it says "contigious" then click all the part of the image you want (this can get tedious), then click ctrl + c to copy then ctrl + n to make a new document, then be sure to click transparent on the bottom part of the popup, then click ctrl + v to paste it in. You should save to web by clicking file-save to web then probably save it as a jpeg and there you go. hope this helped, but if you just tell your webdesigner you the outline image of yourself he should be able to do it for you

You what to have the image cut out to remove the background of the image. Your web designer should know what you mean by saying that, if they don't you should probably look for a new web designer.

try using wingimp its a free alternative to photoshop. (pricey). Wingimp is a photo manipulation software created by a public programmer community who contributed their free time to build this great software. Try searching on google keywords: gimp or wingimp.
