He is doing the right thing by feeding often. Contact La Leche League for great support. Even if he spits a lot out, he will keep more in than you think. He is little and needs to nurse a lot now but soon will slow down. I am glad you are nursing him.

you may not be checking this anymore but this may help. My son did the same thing and is now 3 months and 18lbs. Dr. says hes OK he just needed more than most. He's also 25 inches long. I just started giving him a bottle at night with a tablespoon of rice cereal. (don't freak out he's almost 4 months now) And this seems to have slowed the spitting up a bit and he doesn't need to nurse so often throughout the day. In other words we have more time to get to know each other better. Be encouraged it gets easier it's the first 2 months that are chaotic. Also detaching my son and helping him burp more often also helped to lessen the "accidents" I hope this helps

Spit the bottle/nipple out or the milk? He may want something to suck on if he is spitting the bottle/nipple out. Put a pacifier in his mouth and see if he likes it. If it is the milk he is spitting out, babies do that. Don't worry and if he keeps eating then let him eat until he is clearly done. It might take a while for you to learn the signs, hang in there.
I was having a problem with my baby eating every 2 hour for 5 minutes, I called a nurse about it and she said they she needs to be eating at least 10 minutes...I called the same nurse about 2 weeks later with a different question and she said that my baby will eat as much as she needs...sooooo...In answering your question, He will drink as much as he needs to. Be patient and you will learn his habits.

Just an average intake here: Most (not all) one month olds like to eat about every 2-3hrs. And most drink about 2-4ounces at each feeding. Depends on your baby's preference. He may like to "snack" or "graze" (which is hell on us moms!) Meaning he wants to eat every hour and only an ounce or so at a time. So it seems your feeding him constantly! As they get older their tummies will hold more at one feeding, and the time between feedings will get longer and longer. But for now, just watch for his hunger signs...(squirming, whining, smacking lips or sucking hands) and make sure you burp him well after every ounce or so. If he spits up a lot, he may have reflux, or gas trapped in there. Also, some babies will crave to suck on something just to soothe themselves when they are hurting (from gas). My baby did this, so I gave him a pacifier. A lot of times I thought he was hungry, he just wanted something to suck on. just so he's getting a few ounce every few hrs. good luck

How much is he spitting up? Its normal-to an extent. Sometimes newborns cant tolerate certain things in moms diet.
Nursing often is normal though! I must have nursed my son every hour, at least, for the first 3 months.
Get a sling and you will get alot more done!

If he is throwing up a lot then he needs to go to the doctor. If he is just a little piggy then you can just feed him until he spits and burp him really good.
At his age he can drink all he wants. They usually eat every 3 to 4 hours around the clock at his age.

Newborns usually feed every 3-4 hours, so in a day that would be around 6-8 times a day.

If he is spitting up he could have a problem digesting the milk. But when you breastfeed he will stop on his own when he is full. Don't worry he will let you know when he is hungry.

His digestive system is still immature. He may be hungry, or he may want to suck for comfort. Either way, any professional will tell you "you can't overfeed a breastfed baby". Especially a 1-month-old. You may bring it up with his pediatrician. It could also be reflux or heartburn.
