Do people really believe the planet is going anywhere? Shouldn't it be, "Save the People"?

DTB, kristina4..., edmund372, ~jess~ - The Earth is not going to go anywhere. The people are. The Earth was here millions of years before us, and it will be here millions of years after us. How can anyone think that humans have the ability to end the Earth's existence. If anything, we are killing the humans, not the Earth. So I say, "Save the People."

"save the planet" is meaningless but attractive gibberish that serves as propaganda.

Because no one has talked about how to keep the sun from turning to a red giant. That's when the planet will need saving.

By saving our planet we are helping people. Without a healthy environment no one would have a safe place to live.

Protecting wilderness and saving energy - at first glance you might not see a connection, but if you study both in a little more detail you will discover some surprising links. For example, people can help protect wilderness by driving cars that use something besides gasoline (sometimes called "alternative fuels") and turning off lights when no one is in the room. These actions save energy and reduce our nation's dependence on limited supplies of something called "fossil fuels." "Fossil fuels are resources inside the planet that must be pumped out and processed to power cars, heat our homes, and produce electricity.

But these fuels will not last forever. To remove fossil fuels from inside the planet often requires drilling oil wells or digging mines on beautiful wild lands. Such facilities, and the roads and large equipment they require, damage wild land and threaten the survival of the animals that live there. Also, burning these fuels causes air pollution and adds to the problem of "global warming"-a long-term rise in the temperature of the Earth's surface.

So in short, saving our planet is a large part of helping everyone.
Take care.

True--in a battle of wills, the planet is *definitely* going to win :-)

That said, "Save the Planet" doesn't have to mean "Save its Life;" it could simply mean, "Save the Planet from Its Recent Suffering." Save the polar bears who are drowning as their territory is starting to melt (really); save the livestock that is being shot in Australia b/c they can't continue watering them; save the rainforests and all the flora and fauna of the rainforests. Like that.

you got it backwards

if the planet is in trouble ,
like the drinking water ,is contaminated or not enough
or the air we breathe ,is contaminated or not enough because of disapearing bio mass, because of deforrestation because of expanding populations and expanding agriculture

or the arable lands needed for food production are becoming desserts because of bad farming practices
or flooded by rising seas from the melting ice
or we have crop loss because of rising temperature

then we shout SAVE THE PLANET,because if we dont ,we will all perish

the planet is the only home we got +
it has to be healthy so that is can support the increasing populations

,on a dying and sick planet cannot be healthy people
and healthy people will not survive if the planet is in trouble

And it is

but it is unlikely that it will happen in time or enough

Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use

There's only one planet we pollute - earth. There are 6 billion people on this planet who pollute the one planet we live in. "Save the Planet" is about right.

We need to put environmentalist whack-os on to reservations. They need to be kept where they won't hurt normal people.
