so incredibly underrated?

especially in the black community?

i get love from all types of nationalities; but when it comes to *some* black men in the U.S. "i'm pretty, but too dark" lol...

how did this nonsense become? It's sad really

if dark skin was the "in" thing; or sought after, or deemed "desirable" it would be a different story.

I personally think my skin tone is gorgeous; but its so sad that many people equate dark with bad, or ugly...

just a small percentage :)

It's in every culture, not just African Americans. If anybody saw America's Next Top Model, Anchal (BEAUTIFUL Indian Woman)had been told all her life that she was ugly because of her dark complexion. If she were African American, her skin would have been considered light and beautiful. I've been pursued by guys of other races but I have to admit that I hear more negative remarks (publicly) from African American men pertaining to dark skin. In response to what Joel C said, it's probably body shape and such that's the main difference between African American women and other races. We tend to like bigger butts and such. As a petite woman my sister gets play from whites, Arabs and all the colors of the rainbow.

Those pics were sexy, but I have to admit I don't tend to pursue black girls.
It has nothing to do with there skin color though. A lot of people may hate me for this, but I'm going to be honest. Most black women I've seen tend to have more physical differences with white women aside from skin color. Whether that's good or bad is a matter of opinion. Personally there aren't to many black women that I can honestly say I'm attracted too. If this is some sort of thing implanted into me by the media, I have no idea.
Among Cubans we break blacks into several groups. Segregation never happened in Cuba, but some people see this as a sign of racism.
Here's an example. In Cuba only dark blacks who have no sign of mixture are actually referred to as black. Then from there you go all the way to "jabao". Which is a white person with afro or a black person with green maybe blue eyes or blond afro.
The culture differences among whites and blacks in Cuba are actually less then the U.S. Were also far more mixed.
The term "African Cuban" isn't even used in Cuba. Unlike here were blacks are referred to as " African Americans". Personally I find that more racist then calling them black b/c only white people are referred to as "Amerrcans". Everyone else is called something else. Even the natives.

This isn't a problem in your country alone. I think that wherever we are in the world, we're conditioned into thinking that 'the lighter the skin colour, the better / more beautiful the person'. At least, those are people's first impressions. As they get to know you, opinions change. But yes, it is sad that those negative first impressions still exist.

I'm a brown-skinned Indian....I'm comfortable with who I am, but ppl around always subconsciously behave like its a curse to have my skin colour, especially other women. But that's their problem, I don't let it get to me. And its really who you are - your personality, your character - that ultimately determines beauty and attractiveness. So carry on the way you are .... be happy with yourself & don't let a few superficial morons get you down.

If that is you, you are very pretty, but there does seem to be a relationship in how people view those with darker skin, even among the black community, and especially in Africa. It is not exclusive to those from Africa. Those of the Australian Aborigines experience it, but not from within their ranks. They are highly intelligent people, but are often treated like idiots. Fortunately, they don't do it among themselves.

Because the standard of beauty is light hair, light eyes, and light skin. And there are dozens of orgins, conquest by lighter peoples, domination of mass media and images. Its a shame too because a number of the loveliest women I've ever seen have been dark, yet they are underappreciated. I'm just glad that you yourself haven't fallen into that trap of not appreciating your own beauty.
