If DNA evidence proves that someone has committed a murder, that person should be taken behind the court and shot in the back of the skull. I do not want to pay for someone to sit on death row for life. In the U.S., our prison system is full of people just sitting til they die. I say kill them if the DNA evidence is indisputable.

If you are referring to Capital Punishment, I am all for it. In America, it is not easy to get oneself a death sentence. It is only for the worst most heinous crimes where there is overwhelming evidence and no midgating circumstances. There must be an ultimate price for committing crimes of that magnitude. There is no safe way to keep such criminals locked up for life. They are a threat to the guards and to the other prisoners.

Another reason is it's deterrent factor. Many people claim it is not a deterrent but they are wrong. How can you tell how many people did not commit a crime because they feared the death penalty? May I cite an example? Years ago and black man named Colon Ferguson boarded a New York train. He brought a pistol with him to kill white people. Once the train left the station this man got up and began systematically shooting white people in the head. He was finally subdued by passengers and train employees. It just so happened that he committed this crime while there was no death penalty in New York. Before he even had a chance to have a trial, the death penalty was re-instated. (Mr. Ferguson did not realize that since his crime occurred before the law was signed that he could not be sentenced to death no matter what. ) Still thinking that he was now eligible for the death penalty he broke down in his cell crying hysterically that he did not want to die. He was inconsolable. He would not even believe the guards so they had to bring his lawyer in to convince him that he could not be put to death.

You cannot tell me, that if the threat of the death penalty had been in place that Colon Ferguson would not have committed those murders. It most certainly is a deterrent.

Some people just don't even deserve life behind bars. Food, clothing and shelter are basic human rights for those of us that act in a humane way.

I am and always have been in a quandary about this. I am NOT against capitol punishment as it is a good deterrent and a good punishment (on occassions). However, I then have to ask myself, who are we to take a life and what gives us the right? Are we not then as bad as the perpetrator? I have still not resolved my dilemma.
