It sounds like your harddrive is severely fragmented and needs to be defragmented. Start up windows defragger and let it run until completed, depending on the size of your harddrive it could take all night if not longer. If Windows defragger does not do the job in restoring your HD, then try Disk Defrag from Auslogics. Once you have repaired your HD files, I recommend running a defrag software at least once a month to keep your system running smoothly.

This may be a bit extreme for you, but I re-format (wipe clean) my hard drive once every three months. I have all of my essential and personal data backed up on an external hard drive, so I never lose anything.

Formatting is usually a last ditch effort, but the difference is IMMEDIATELY noticable, and typically lasts awhile. (or until it gets loaded up with spyware and useless applications that come bundled with other software)

If you have any questions on formatting, feel free to message me.

Hope this helped a bit,

Try running chkdsk

Go to Start, then Run, and type chkdsk /f
