All media is "for profit" with very few exceptions therefore it is owned by a person or corporation that is led by a person which then results in a bias that is frequently applied to the media they produce. If by no other means the flavor of people hired by the organization to write or produce their media.
I do not think purely free media exist anywhere which is why critical thinking is so important and the ability to evaluate and question everything you see or hear then you can make your own "educated opinion" and avoid the all to common emotional response to the endless false information that is transmitted everywhere (often by those with the most cash) for the purpose of furthering an agenda.
How many times has news been released that consist of partial truths solely to gain market share and scoop a big story regardless of the injury or damage it may cause only later to be found false or unsubstantiated. In conclusion I say media is free when its convenient and follows its agenda to a degree, and most importantly maintains or leads to an increased bottom line.

I think we've seen some situations where the press is not free to report the news as they've researched it. Look at Dan Rather and others who have been smitten by those who own the media.

They're a great deal more free than the press in most other countries. Are they 100% free? I'm not sure anybody can be... if nothing else, they're slaves to whether they can earn enough to stay in business.

Freedom of the Press as wished for by our forefathers is walking on very thin ice these days as evidenced by the recent jailings of our own press reporters.Speaking your mind can also be dangerous depending on who is listening, even here in these forums. But we as a people must speak the truth and demand that our goverment let the press speak the truth also, otherwise we too become nothing but a cheap dictatorship.(look at our current government!)I go to sleep quite well at night knowing I say what I say,do you/

As free as it can be, under the circumstances. But all media is owned by some corporation or another.

It isn't in Scotland - it is full of left wing propaganda. I don't really bother listening to it any more - it is just too nauseating and parochial. Thank god for reuters!
