district has to provide us with potable water. The county water district requires us to pay usage fees. The say WE own the well, but THEY own the water. The water they are providing us with contains nitrates and the state is shutting our well down. This will leave us with no water. Is anyone else in a similar situation. The local government is providing us with tainted water and the state is requiring us to fix it... Any ideas?

This is a tough one, because a small water company takes a lot of money to run. Usually developers form the water company and then skip town, leaving the owners with a terrible burden. I would suggest if the water company is less than 10 year old that you go after the developer.

If it is a water company that has been around a while and was formed by the home owners, I would suggest trying to appease the state government and figure out a way to make it legal again.

Check and see if there are any grants that you can get form the State to take care of the well with the local government also.

(FYI, all of this is a headache)
