I live in an apartment building in an urban area. Any advice or thoughts on the best way for me to prepare for a possible zombie attack?

When you see a zombie, just walk away, there is just no way that they will be able to keep up with you. In the rare case of an all-out zombie attack, scream "Global warming is coming!" and as they are all "running" around in circles in sheer terror, use the "just walk away" plan.

I suppose that you ought to have a plan B. Dress up like a zombie and walk out mumbling, "get them, get them!" and go in the opposite direction that you plan on running off. (Just walk a little slower than they do, I know it will be hard to do that, but be patient.) As soon as there is an opening, just turn around and run off -- they won't know what happened.

The best way to prepare for all this is to have a zombie outfit handy at all times and to hold "zombie attack" drills at your apartment building so everyone knows what to do.

You may want to hang up a "Helpless, moronic, teenagers without working cell phones gathering place" sign with an arrow pointing up. That should confuse them for awhile as they are irresistibly drawn to said teenagers.

Don't worry about the "running" zombies, they do not exist -- rigor mortis makes sure of that.

P.S.: If it helps, I am pretty sure that zombies can't swim. They can, however, walk under water, so be careful.

Stock up on provisions, barricade yourself in - preferable try to barricade the whole floor if not the whole building. You'll have to check the residents for infections - ie bites - in which case whack them with a machete (save the bullets for the real zombies).

Water should be your main concern - apart from zombies that is. Stockpile lots of that.

Weapons:
*shotgun - it can be used without much aiming and if you don't have time for a headshot, it'll least knock them back.

*pistol - for up-close headshots

*machete - no need for reload just swing away! Go for the head and hands first.

*Hairspray and lighter - you might be able to set their clothes on fire and have a crispy zombie!

When you run out of food, make a note of where the closest convenient stores are. Take the shortest route, keep your eyes peeled in every direction, and don't be noisy. If they're fast moving zombies, you might try hopping from building to building, using ropes and such.

Remember to go for the head. That is the one constant in the movies.
ANd pray they are the old-school, slow-moving zombies and not the 28 Days Later version that runs you down.

Yeah...buy a sword, a battle axe...and lots and lots of knifes. That is how I'm prepared for such things. Guns need ammo, a sword or axe doesn't.

go to a maximum security prison that is outside of civilization with no infection, and just wait it out

you have everything you need there, guards, reinforced walls, barbwire, towers, ammo, and food

Get yourself a pet skunk. They hate skunks and are afraid of them.
