They'll give you all the maps you need, for free, plus travel books that list sights, motel accommodations and restaurants. Enjoy- the planning can be half the fun!
PS. I'd throw in Arizona too- it's an incredibly beautiful state with so much to see- not least of which is the Grand Canyon!
