Ok, so my friend built me a computer, which I am using now. I know nothing about computers. Is this considered a "Good" computer, or obsolete? Here are the specifications I know...

Processor: Intel Pentium D Dual Core processor 3.4 Ghz (6.8Ghz total)
RAM: 2 gig dual channel
Hard Drive: 250 gig
Operating System: Windows XP Professional
Video Card: ATI Radeon X1600Pro 512 MB PCI-E
Umm... it also has a DVD RW in it, and I have cable internet

Also, is this computer any good for games? Thanks.

Okay, that has got to be the best freaking computer out there. You would only give it a C if you could? Come on! I didn't even know you could buy processors over 3.2 Gig! Well, not without robbing a bank or breaing into intel's factory and stealing next-gen PCUs. Freaking awesome computer. Forget playing games, you might as well make one! =D

PS: Don't get Vista for about 6 months. It sucks right now, but pretty soon it will kick a**!

Well, yes it is good for gaming now. To this date, it will run anything fine. But in the future you may lose out on some features with that build. From what i remember that card does not support cell shader 3.0 or directx10. This means you will notice reduced visuals in games such as Crysis that were built for Windows Vista and support these new technologies. The system will run Vista fine however, just no all of the the new visual toys.

Your system is certainly powerful enough.

Since I don't play games, I can't say this with any authority, but I think you'll find you can accomodate the most complex games easily.

The specs on your system are way higher than the majority of PC in homes today. Most are still on the 2.0 - 2.4 GHZ variety.

ummm... this computer is AMAZING. the dual-core really boosts the speed(obviously). Lots of RAM makes for quick running programs. For better gaming, get a sound card so its sounds more realistic. maybe a 7.1 channel. also, ample hard drive space is important and you have lots of it. give your friend a pat on the back for this one. it is amazing. take it from me.
