IT IN 2007?

I AM NOT SORRY IN THE LEAST FOR THE SINS OF MY GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHERS SINS.

IT'S A TERRIBLE SHAME FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO SOMEBODY, BUT NONE OF US DID IT. AND NONE OF THOSE ALIVE EVER HAD TO SUFFER THROUGH WHAT HAPPEND. SO IS THIS A WASTE OF TIME?

IF YOU ASK ME, THE BLACKS THAT ARE HERE NOW LEAD A MUCH BETTER LIFE THAN IF THEY HAD BEEN LEFT IN THE JUNGLES OF AFRICA. WHAT GIVES?

I AM NOT A RACIST EITHER. IF SOMEONE IS ALIVE WHO LIVED THROUGH SLAVERY, PAY THEM FOR IT. BUT THERE ARE NONE LEFT. SORRY.

NONE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS WERE EVER SLAVE OWNERS SO I SHOULD NOT BE PUNISHED FOR IT.

I NEVER apologize for something I had nothing to do with. My ancestors, going back to the 1200s in Ireland, never owned slaves, so I have NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE ABOUT. For those that say that people with my attitude is an attempt to keep the blacks down, so be it. If the blacks are trying to tap the national treasure for reparations and this is the first step, (that IS what is happening) then I WANT TO PUT THEM DOWN. Comprendo?

You do sound like a racist. And your trying to justify slavery by saying "You could still be in the jungle." Racist have been using that line to justify slavery fo years. And for those who survive slavery were suppose to recieve 40 acres and a mule, but whites just said will just wait until they die off, so we won't have to give them what we owe them. Plus the legal system back then didn't treat balcks as equals, so they couldn't do anything about it. According to the legal system if you have an ancestor who was owed something and it was never paid to them, then legally the grandchildren can claim it with interest. So what do you think the equalvilent to 40 acre and a mule is in 2007? You should be concerned with the actions of your ancestors sins, because their cheating blacks may have screwed this country over from a legal standpoint. Its more than just a white debt, its what this country owes to blacks. And if blacks can prove that their the decendant from at least one slave. That apology doesn't sound so bad now doesn't it?

Sometimes all it takes is a simple "were sorry for the mistakes of our ancestors." Believe it are not black folks do discuss with their children about what happened to our ancestors and even though it may not have happened to us, that's still family. Whites would rather act like their slaves were part of the family and were never beaten, raped or breed like cattle.

One of my ancestors, he just happened to be 6'10", so master thought it would be a good idea to have him randomly impregnate several female slave in the hopes of having more male slaves his size. Master even allowed his buddies from other plantations to borrow him for such purposes, but for a small fee of course. But were suppose to get over, knowing that I have other relatives in this country that I know nothing about.

And they never even apologized. All we ask is for whites to acknowledge it not deny it and come up with excuses for it and apologize on their behalf, because you guys are clearly benefiting from slavery.

The state of Virginia said nothing about reparations. They said *nothing* about punishing anybody. They simply voted--UNANIMOUSLY, not a single "nay"--to say that they as a state think that slavery is a horrible thing, that even its abolition was followed by problems, and that the state recognizes this.

For a state which made a great deal of wealth off of slavery--wealth that for some continues from generation to generation even now--why is that a terrible thing to say? Even you recognize that it was a "terrible shame." That's pretty much what they're saying, too.

Try not to feel threatened. This is a good thing.

Just the tone of what you wrote sounds racist. I don't believe that anyone no matter what race should be given extra privileges, everyone should be treated equal, unfortunately in today's society, a lot of people are still not treated equally. We are getting better but are not quite there yet. And it is not just race that we are prejudice against but religion and physical form, or anything that sets someone aside as being different. Because of this many people develop a victim mentality, thinking that the world owes them something just because they were born. This is not true, we all need to fight for equality each and every day but, never to set someone above everyone else.

SLAVERY IS A TERRIBLE THING. IT SEPARATED OUR COUNTRY AND CAUSED A CIVIL WAR THAT PITTED BROTHER AGAINST BROTHER. IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF OUR COUNTRY THERE IS STILL A LOT OF HATRED BECAUSE OF IT. THE HATRED IS BEING HANDED DOWN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION. IT IS TIME FOR IT TO STOP. I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT GOOD WILL COME OUT OF WHAT THE STATE OF VIRGINIA IS DOING.

I was wondering how long it would take to see comments like yours. They apologized because of people like you who STILL try to keep us down.

But I'm bored with explaining racism, slavery and the effects then and now. You will NEVER UNDERSTAND RACISM, sir!

Just know that those two evils hurt me and YOU too. And I'm glad you feel the pain.

Your ancestors created your world and mine and what we are seeing today is their legacy. Unfortunately for you, we are both subject to the justice and injustice of it. (For you, because you do not wish to be hurt by it too - you think it's ok for me only).

Goosestep, I'm not down at all. I'm educated with a good paying job. My response is not personal, it is a brief statement to your 'why' question, but you're still too dense to get what I'm saying. Alas, this is not the place for enlightenment, sir. I no longer have the patience for the time it will take to educate your kind.

P.S. do not complain too loudly or we will demand and get even more.

It's the black leaders trying to continue to profit off of a dead issue

Blacks today are more racist then whites have ever been

They need to get over it

If anyone is keeping you down it's yourself

No one can hold you back. Blacks have more oppurtunities these days than anyone. It's called affirmative action or better yet it is called reverse racism

I too, had ancestors who owned slaves in Virginia and North Carolina. That was then, this is now. While I disagree with slavery I understand why they did it. I am proud of my ancestry and that one part of their world may not have been anything I agree with I still share genes with them and in a distant way they reared my great grand parents who reared my grandparents who reared my parent who reared me. Times have changed. I am not responsible for them and what they did. I wasn't around to stop them and perhaps would have condoned it had I been born and lived in that time in their place. You too. As would all of us.

there is nothing we can do about the past but learn from it and not letting it happen in the future....

i saw this on yahoo news today and i was like 'what? why?'
we may still feel bad about everything and anything in the past but none of us are responsible for these things...its crazy, thats like a german saying sorry to a jew for something they didnt believe in or do....you can only say sorry so much
