If you already have not had a full gynological exam, I would suggest that you get one. The doctor will do a pap smear test and a breast exam. During a pap, the doctor will swab your cervix, to be tested for abnormal cells, they will also insert two fingers inside you and feel your reproductive organs to make sure they are normal. A breast exam is just looking for lumps or abnormal puckering etc. They should also draw blood and do some normal tests on you, as well as test for any STD's. You should have this done at least every two years.

Not sure where you got that info, but you are not required to get a pre-marital checkup, unless this is the law someplace that I don't know about, but not where I live.

When you see a gynecologist (or your family doctor may do it also), which you should do every year after you turn 18 or become sexually active (whichever comes first), they do a pelvic exam and breast exam, and some will also do a rectal exam.

First of all, most times it is not required but it is recommended. Primarily it is a complete physical exam including breast and pelvic. If you have been sexually active, screening for STD's and a pap will also be done and counselling on family planning and contraceptive options. Best to do this more than 6 months from the wedding so you have time to get used to it. Less critical to do that far out if you are already living together and having sex. Gynecologists are the best trained in women's reproductive health but some family doctors also do Gyn exams. If you have not been sexually active, then discussion about sexual intercourse can be done with the couple if neither have been sexually active. Recommended screening for hepatitis, HIV, syphyllis, gonorrhea and chlamydia is done at this time. Pap is recommended 3 years after the onset of becoming sexually active. THis is a great time for your gyn to discuss the Gardisil vaccine, too, if you haven't already started the series.

What? I've never heard of such a thing! I don't know of one place on the east cost where you get an gyno exam.

ill! I believe you should get regular checkups, but what redneck backward state makes you get a gyno exam? That is really sexist!

For the women below me: What do you mean get used to it? Are you implying sex is like a pelvic exam? Anyway getting your gyno exam should be a regular thing, not a six month before you get married thing. How old are you anyway? Ill!

Not sure where you got your info from, but have never heard of a girl having to have a gyn check up to get married. The only requirement I am aware of is a blood test prior to getting married, which any general practitioner can order for you and your fiancee.

It's like a pap test. The doc can check you for diseases. Your soon to be spouse also. Not a lot of states require it but it is a great thing to do anyway. Real easy dr. visit.

There is not a reguired test for a marriage (well...maybe compatability before you find out later than sooner!) that I have ever heard of.

You can go to a regular doctor. I did for mine.

He just gave me a complete physical; nothing gyno.
