I am having a debate with a friend and would like some other opinions.

What makes a young, teenage girl to be promiscious? What causes them to go bad, do drugs, smoke, drink..etc...

Is it bad parenting, neglect, a parent holding on too tight?

I think it's sad when a young lady does this. I feel that it is simply no self respect, and usually regretted in the later adult years.

Most studies on this site an absent or neglectful father. Men who have a good relationship with their daughters and give them abundant praise are less likely to have daughters who seek love outside of their home. Interestingly enough, the mom's relationship plays very little into this behaviour. The mom's example plays a big role, though. Women who speak this behaviour into their daughters lives are likely to get it.... you know the attitude, well,,,,,,,I did it and I'm okay. Parents who pray with their children and foster a relationship with God into their kids, are the least likely to have these problems.

in my opinion and experience i think it is a mixture of things. the hormones are very high at that time in a girls life so we feel much more mature than we actually are in addition to the naivette of actually how much work a child would be. it could be no self respect or want of attention but i dont think it could be bad parenting unless abuse is present. being that we think we know it all at that age we want to seem older ex. smoking drinking sex is sign to everyone that we must be a certain age. so it creates illusion to everyone that we are older. some is just natural rebellion lol. i had my moments lol. my parents were good parents. i was tired of being so sheltered. never went anywhere or done anything. that sort of thing. there is such a thing as holdin on too tightly though as a parent. being one myself ive learned that if you never let anything happen to them then nothing ever will. ex. you tell em the stove is hot but they touch it anyway. they do gotta learn from experience sometimes but it is parents job to try to prevent that but sometimes accidents happen. it is a trust issue between child an parent. if child learns to trust parent early on then most likely they will trust them when it come to important things later down the road.

Being promiscious is more on the side of hormones. When you get into your teenage year, those hormones start to kick in.

Alot of the drugs, alcohol, etc can be alot of things. One is peer pressure. Some people can ignore it while others seem to give into it.
Another is possibly for attention. My cousin did outragious things because she felt neglected by her mother.
Last could be from lack of self-respect or just plain curiousity.

I think its a lack of communication...If you can talk to your child and LISTEN you will help alot of that...Keeping them busy with sports or clubs at school..If a child is being promiscuous it could also be from not feeling loved and doing these things they feel like they are being loved...I don't think its bad parenting .. I hold my girls to standards and so far they are not taking that path.. All i can say is communicate every day.........
