There are a lot of politics on manatees here in Florida. Despite this, they are still here. We have various protections on them like no wake, slow speed and no motor zones for boats to reduce boat related injuries and fatalities. It is also against the law to pet, feed or give water to manatees, because they'd much rather beg from people than go do what they're supposed to do. (Things like migrate to warm water areas during winter and find their own food.)

There's a lot of people around here who say "Manatees aren't even native to Florida." This is a blatant case of ignoring the facts. The fossil record shows manatees were here long before people were, and some of the midden piles made by our native tribes have manatee bones in them.

Manatee population is up, but fatalities are on the rise. As long as we're careful and treat them with a bit of respect, we should have them for a long time to come.

I hope that's what you were looking for, your question wasn't too specific.
