I am not sure that you can fly to Cuba from NYC.. if you are an American citizen or if you have family in Cuba and have gotten all the required permission to go to Cuba, you can fly direct to Cuba from Miami Florida. They fly to Havana daily, usually morning flights. If you are not going to go through the proper channels, you can go through the Bahamas or Canada (probably closer to Canada if you are already in New York)

If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident you will need a U.S. Treasury license before you fly to Cuba. Continental Airlines has a charter flight from JFK in New York. Marazul Tours is the only tour operator who can book seats on this route. You should give them a call before you plan on flying to Cuba.

There are no flights from NYC to Havana. In fact, there are no flights from anywhere in the U.S. to Cuba, except for Miami, and those flights are reserved for Cuban immigrants on special Visas.

Your most economic deal to get to Havana from New York would be to fly or drive up to Montreal, and fly to Cuba from there. You can find flights from Montreal to various destinations in Cuba on numerous sites; my personal favourite being www.selloffairfares.com.

P.S. I find that there are more, cheaper flights to Varadero than there are to Havana. It's less than 3 hours away on the Viazul bus, which picks you up at the Varadero airport.
