Mitt Romney's Great Grandfather was a polygamist. So what? Why write an extensive article about previous generations of his family that practiced something that has been outlawed by the Mormon Church since before Romney was born? Romney is the only front runner for the Republican nomination to have had one wife (Giuliani has been married 3 times, McCain twice).

So my question is...Is this news or just an attempt at smearing the name of a Republican candidate?

it's really not...

maybe an interesting tid bit of mormon history, but not really news...

it seems the definition of news today is... anything that sells/shocks people... and unfortunatley... people care about his grandfather's polygamy more than the issues he's running on...

I mean, geez, anna nichole smith isn't news either... what is news anymore...

I'm more liberal and I agree with you on this... let's stick to the issues folks...

Politicians get their names smeared during campaigns?! This is the first I've heard of it; someone should report it to the proper authorities. by the by, Mormons still practice polygamy despite it being "outlawed" by the church. i guess it's too hard a rule to follow.

Wow, what a shocker. A Mormon's Great Grandfather was a polygamist. What are the odds of that.

Just a smear attempt. just like the stuff that came out about Obama being raised a Muslim, untrue garbage being thrown by political enemies in an attempt to solidify a few unintelligent people against them.

Obviously smear by the same type of people who care if someone in my family generations and generations ago was a slave owner, but don't like to bother about current day rapists and murderers.

A person can not control what their parents or grandparents did. It is illustrative of the background but that is it. There is enough not to recommend this man on his own merits and you don't have to look at parents or grandparents.

Calm down.

The repeds did the same thing to Kerry when they found out his grandfather was Jewish.

Although I will not be voting for Mr. Romney I do agree with what you say in his favor.
