I can't give an absolute answer to that question. I'm sure that without water the grass would eventually die, but so would all the other plants. It is normal for our lawns to go dormant during hot dry periods of weather.

Depends on many factors, among this is how drought resistant the lawn itself is (bermuda and fescue both have a high drought tolerance, for instance).

It also depends how often it is cut during this time. As a rule, one shouldn't cut the grass at all when it's hot and dry, because when grass is cut, it loses anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of its humidity until the cut heals, and if there's no moisture in the soil from which to replenish itself with, it will likely go brown and die.

Since grass doesn't grow much in a drought, so long the lawn was healthy when the drought started and the grass isn't cut during the time (unless it gets pretty high), then it should be able to stand at least a 6 month drought, longer if winter's involved.

As for the longest time it can go, that I could not tell you, but I'm fairly certain it's not indefinite, maybe a year, I don't know.

Grass will stay dormant in droughts until water is returned. It will never die completely to the point that it will not come back.

you know you could have phrased all these questions in one question box.
anyways as i said last question it depends on the type of lawn. and where you are. theres diff types of drought. over here in aus we get it hot and dry. and our lawn is just non existant due to previous water restrictions.
