Yes, in fact it is required to close the case, federal regulations.
For both Food Stamps and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families you are not allowed to voluntary quit a job without good cause. Because your friend lost benefits under a sanction, your friend did not have either good cause or did not explain/verify the situation to their worker. Good cause includes (but not limited to) unsafe/abusive work environment, not paid minimum wage, not paid on regular schedule, and in certain situations lack of transportation or child care.
When your friend applied for benefits, work requirements would have been explained with rights and responsibilities.
If your friend finds another comparable job, it is possible the sanction might be "cured" early.

I sure hope so, its about time the taxpayers have to quit paying the bills for someone that rather live off the system then get up and go to work.
No one with a brain is going to feel sorry for your friend unless their cheating the system too.

Yes.Your friend was in a work program.He/she was required to work 30 hours a week and in those programs if you quit for a no good cause you will lose your benefits.Welfare is only trying to help those that helps theirselves in most states.
