There are really a lot of reasons.
1) Going for higher education courses that challenge you, really really do make you a lot more mature in terms of thought etc.
2) Going to college/ tertiary education opens up a lot of doors in terms of jobs
3) You will be more respected if you have a degree in today's world.
4) You can get higher paying jobs and have a better lifestyle (in general)

Because there are more chances that you will be successful. If you compare the percentage of successful people who went to college and who didn't there is a big difference. Education helps your anaylitical thinking and builds your mind through experiences. It's never important to know when the Boston Tea Party happened. Its the analytical thinking.
