Hormone count the first month of pregnancy?

Does anyone understand hormone counts. A friend is about 4-5 weeks pregnant and went to the er because she was cramping. They said she was pregnant, but her hormone count was only 16, so they thought she was going to miscarry. She was upset and I looked up that it could be somewhere between 14 and 475 or something like that. Can anyone explain this?

1-2 weeks: 40 - 300
3-4: 500 - 6,000
1-2 months: 5,000 - 200,000
2-3 months: 10,000 - 100,000
2nd trimester: 3,000 - 50,000
3rd trimester: 1,000 - 50,000
Non-pregnant females: <5.0
Postmenopausal: <9.5

They will more than likely just have her come back in once a week for ultrasounds and to check the HCG levels. I hope things work out for her! I am pregnant right now, with no complications at all, but I have several friends who just recently had miscarriages!! Good luck to her!

The doctor was referring to her Progesterone level. This site explains what the levels are supposed to be and when and what progesterone does during pregnancy. I hope that this helps. I had the same problem. They can give suppositories and shots to get her at the right level if needed so she shouldn't worry. Her level is borderline and she will probably be ok. Wish her the best.
