Our Government wants you to believe that Republicans and Democrats are widely different. It is the plan of these elected officials to shout back and forth and put on some show for the crowd and then behind the big curtain they are laughing and joking at your expense calling the American voter a moron. This is why the 2 party system stays in business. They get the voter to pick one side or the other like a ball game. Once you pick you are stuck. The buzz words in politics. Health care, Education, Taxes and social security - You hear them every day all the time. What changes - open your eyes - NOTHING EVER CHANGES.
no matter who is in office.

Because the parties espouse different philosophies across a broad spectrum of issues. This is a most healthy situation, since it gives all sides a voice in government.
However, the constant name calling between the parties is not very productive. And i would have no respect for those who slavishly follow the party line. If you are a democrat and you think that the republican party has *no* good ideas and vice-versa, you're a sheep.
For the system to work to it's optimim effect, it requires that the voters inform themselves about every single candidate. In fact what usually happen is that a core group always votes r, and another core group always votes d.
If you are in the middle, and studying the issues, people like you are actualy making the determination for public office, not the sheep.
Are you an informed voter, or are you a sheep? That's the question to ask yourself in the run up to 2008.

They really aren't that separated and they are not on opposite sides of the political spectrum. That would be communism and fascism. We are united and the country was made with two political parties. The intention of two parties is that there will be a disagreement between them. You don't get along with everyone in the US, I mean I believe in certain things and my brother believes in other things, that is how political parties came about. To be United does not mean that we have to agree on everything, everyone had a different opinion on how the country should be ran and that is where the parties come in. I am personally independent because I believe in parts of both sides and so I vote for who is best, as should all people instead of voting along party lines.

I don't know how it happened, a few years ago I was into partying and going to school, the next thing I know I'm on the Internet getting hammered for giving our U.S. President the benefit of the doubt.
I didn't choose to be a "neocon", whatever that means, I just fell into it. I'm just not ready to believe our current government is full of bad people. They seem like typical government officials to me. Nothing has changed.
It comes down to the "War" in Iraq I think. Democrats are trying to find a way out and George W, leader of the Republicans, want to fight some more. I guess that's a pretty good reason.

every tribe on earth has always had born conservatives who are always concerned about the threat from other tribes. in the civilized world this ancient fear of other tribes competing for resources is a problem and many people in every tribe (nations today) oppose this fear and kneejerk need to attack outsiders.
liberalism is necessary for nation building. in my opinion, the victory over the most notorious tribalist, hitler, represents the exclamation point in the battle to put a stop to tribal conservatism.
its more problematic to define liberalism. it changes by country. in some countries, liberals are socialists and in others its freedom loving people opposed to fascism. if we had only one party, then we'd only get it right about half the time, since neither party, or attitude, is always correct.

Well see the Liberals believe that we are all in this together but republicans believe that it is every man for himself but they have the right to be selfish so you can see the frustration
