I have a friend whose husband flirts with other women. He tells her that he doesn't want to be married or have a kid (they have a 2 month old son) right now and then takes it back later. What is wrong with people? Does it mean nothing more then a tax break these days? What is the point of getting married if people are going to cheat and/or not want to be in that relationship?

I agree completely with you. Some people want their cake and to eat it too, as they say. You either want to be married or you don't. You can't have a married life and a single life. He sounds immature and not sure of who or what he wants. If he keeps flirting and saying stuff, she should tell him to go for it!!

Marriage is not the problem. It is people. People get married for different reasons. Some marry for money . Some marry because of a tax break. And others marry for love.

People cheat because they can. They cheat because we all are basically dishonest and not true. Haven't you cheated on your taxes? How about on a test in school ? Have you ever told a lie ?

And the thing about relationships is that it is not about happiness. Marriage is for growth. It is a teacher. And the problem is that there are quite a few bad students.
And many rush into marriage without knowing the other person. And they are blinded by ignorance. And every person brings baggage into a relationship. So what do you do ? You accept the fact that people don't change unless they want to.

And there is no perfect mate because you yourself ain't perfect.

Good question, Nikki. Statistics are overwhelmingly in favor of divorce, 63% of first marriages, 70% of second. So why not simply live together and have some kind of contract about how to split expenses and who gets the TV when you break up? Makes more sense to me than spending all that money on a fancy wedding and then spending all that money on an expensive attorney for the divorce. Save the dough, buy the big-screen TV and live together with a simple contract. Then if things go sour, simply turn to the contract to determine how to split the assets, who gets what, and what arrangements have been made, if any, to have one party help support the other party while they find a new job. Good luck.

Not being born here, I know what you mean. Present society has a weak constitution of marriage. Most of what goes on in the name of marriage really isn't nowadays. Marriage is meant to be a joining of man and woman...MAN and WOMAN. There is a difference between a MAN and a MALE, a WOMAN and a FEMALE. Male and Female are animalistic descriptions. For true marriage to happen, people need to grow out of that animalistic behavior of living for one's own self. A man won't go flirting about when he has a wife and a 2 month old baby at home, only a male would do that. God made us to be better than that. He did not make us to be these animals, but people have chosen to be just that.

Marriage is total committment from one to another and
the problem is that one or the other does not want to make
that committment. Why is it that so many marry then so
many do not want to take on the responsibilities no-one
really knows. I think there should be classes on getting
married just like they have classes on giving birth, so to
make people more aware of the responsibilities one has
to take that get married. Too many people are married
that think they can just do what they want while their part-
ner gets hurt and does not understand why the other
partner does what she or he does. What a shame. How-
ever there are some of us who set the example of what
marriage should be all about and it's the best when two
people love each other and are committed to each other.
I know because married to my wife 20yrs and I would not
do anything to jeapardize that.

marriage is hard and some people just don't want it
some people don't want it after they already have taken that step
they have doubts and some people would cheat if they are not married.
people used to think they could run all over women and now some people are taught that women should do certain things like everything the man tells them to do.
marriage is about respect now but before the women could not get out of it unless the man wanted to.
so after marriage the men could do anything they wanted and they had the woman trapped.
now all women and men have the choice to get a divorce if they are unhappy and if it gets to that extent of being abused then they have the right but most people just don't wait until they are ready and do it too young.

Well it depends on individual .
One has to be very serious while taking the decision of marriage.
Maybe marriage is too early for the person u are mentioning.
It's not like marriage hold no meaning today but the fact is that ppl are getting attracted to other ppl even after their marriage but they shudn't overpower their marriage until they have a valid reason to break it.
Well i wud just say before getting married u shud think a thousand times

Marriage is the joining of two people, once one steps away, it's over. It's too easy these days to separate and divorce but consider the other side of that,
If a woman is married and in a year he starts to abuse her, or he refuses to work ,she should have an easy way out.
I don't have the answer.

Stupid and irresponsible guys they got nothing to do with marriage. Marriage is meaningful and only faithful, responsible, sensitive, and honest people knows it's true meaning.

Do not let some cheaty people ruin your point of view about things. It is a waste of time even to think about those kind of people.

To many people it means little or nothing these days which is so sad. I still place enormous value on marriage and loyalty. Luckily for me I have found a man who values that as much as I do. People who value marriage do still exist!
