Russia (then called the USSR) in 1954, England in 1956, and then the United States in 1957 were the first three nations to produce nuclear generated electricity for "power grids" and for commercial use.

Nuclear reactors were first experimented with by several nations in the 1940s, with electricity first generated by a nuclear reactor in the United States in 1951.
